If you want a date, go to Austin, Texas.
That's what I've concluded after perusing various lists of the best cities for singles to live. Both Forbes and Sperling's Best Places ranked Austin as the top city to catch a date. Kiplinger ranked Austin third.
So what's Austin have that Macon doesn't? What does it take for a city to be a hot place for singles? Well, to each his own, and even these sources had differing opinions. Kiplinger looked for rental affordability and a high number of restaurants and nightspots. Forbes looked at a city's nightlife, culture, job growth and the ever elusive "coolness" factor. Sperling's took a more mathematical approach and looked at the percentage of singles ages 18-24, population density and dating venues per capita.
The different criteria can produce different results. Although Forbes ranks Atlanta No. 5 as a top city for singles, Sperling's flips the coin and ranks Atlanta No. 7 on its list of cities with the worst dating scenes.
Taking all this into account, think of what you look for in a dating scene. What kind of criteria would you use to determine hot cities for singles? What cities would you put on your list? How does Macon (or your own city) compare with those cities?

As with everything else in life, I think that diversity is the key.
The more different cultural backgrounds, races, ages, the better. The more job opportunities too. That in turn attracts people. And that in turn, again, helps boost local economy and social life.
I lived in Houston, Tx for about 20 years, now in Macon. I will tell you the deal... Austin has 6th street....and Lake Travis...U T..... there are tons of hippies ...lots of diversity.. Its a very artsy town with allot of laid back people.... it def smokes Macon... I hate to say it but Macon people seem to have sticks lodged in certain places...Im not quite sure if they realize that there is a great big world out there and that they really need to relax...be open to diff cultures and lifestyles...quit with the judgement etc and that in itself would open the dating world 95%. Macon is very clicky... its funny to watch coming from a big city...because your like..." What on earth are they so sheltered and clicky for" ? OPEN UP PEOPLE!!! Get out some... and Im not talking to Atlanta...or Savannah.... expand your horizons... try dating a an asian person...learn something new... or a Latina...or something...mix it up...open the door!!!!!!! Macons dating scene is dead... lol sorry...but true.
